The solution to most of these issues is by using refrigerated ships known as reefer vessels. They have specially built temperature controlling units that ensure that the temperature is regulated throughout the entire cargo holds of the ship.
2. Transportation of Livestock and animals: Livestock and animals are another commonly transported cargo between several countries. This may be for the purpose of breeding, for meat, or for recreation. Animals require special environment and nutrition to survive long voyages
3. Crude and petroleum derivatives: These cargoes are extremely volatile fuels, and the vessels transporting these need to have hulls capable of withstanding huge pressure. Tanker vessels/ Gas carriers are used for such transportation
4. Farm equipment, military gear, and vehicles are transported in special ships called RO-RO vessels
5. Dry Bulk: The movement of a wide variety of materials such as coal, iron ore, grains, bauxite, and sand falls under dry bulk.
6. Break Bulk- This type of cargo usually includes drums, bags, pallets, and boxes. Solid fertilizers and chemicals may be transported in this form
7. Neo Bulk- When prepackaged goods are carried by sea, this is called neo bulk. Eg. lumber (bundles), paper (rolls), steel and vehicles.
8. Hazardous chemicals & ammunition: This requires vessels with special handling capability
